As a pickling type cucumber, it is crisp, light, and refreshing as a slicing cucumber, with a sublime sweetness not found in other cucumbers. Chicago Pickling was a popular Midwest heirloom variety since its release in 1888 by D.M. Ferry of Detroit. Plants are vigorous and have some disease resistance. Grown from seed in high quality soil.
Attractive, high-yielding pickler for the greenhouse. Excelsior produces dark green, blocky, nicely proportioned 4–5" cucumbers with American-style spines. Vigorous, balanced plant with consistent fruit setting. Excellent flavor. Also does well in screen houses, in the field under row cover, or wherever else pollinators are absent. Parthenocarpic and gynoecious. High resistance to scab and target spot; and intermediate resistance to cucumber mosaic virus, cucumber vein yellowing virus, and powdery mildew.
Our earliest, most productive classic slicer. This hybrid produces very dark green, uniform, 7–8" slicing cucumbers despite cool weather or heat. Small seed cavity. Skin is thick enough to endure harvesting and handling, but thinner than the average slicing cucumber. Remarkable vigor in both the field and greenhouse. Gynoecious and parthenocarpic. Grown from seed in high quality soil.
Tasty snacking cucumber with good heat tolerance. Katrina produces an early to midseason crop in protected culture. Known for its ability to set fruit under heat stress, Katrina is very high yielding with excellent uniformity. This seedless, thin-skinned cuke is best when harvested at 5 1/2–6 1/2" long. Gynoecious and parthenocarpic.
Long, slender, dark green cucumbers. The slender, refined "Marketmore look" has long been the standard for slicing cucumbers in the North. 8–9" fruits stay uniformly dark green even under weather stress. Begins bearing late, but picks for a relatively long time. High resistance to scab; and intermediate resistance to cucumber mosaic virus, and powdery mildew.
High-performing Japanese type. Dark, glossy, and very attractive. Maintains crispness and a uniform shape over a wide range of sizes, so you can harvest anywhere from 8–12" long. Small seed cavities and delightful sweetness. Fully gynoecious and parthenocarpic, which is unique for its type. Hybrid. Grown from seed in high quality soil.
Unagi is the cucumber we didn't know we needed, but now can't live without. Glossy, spineless cukes with tiny seed cavities, crisp texture, and excellent flavor. A prolific yielder of remarkably straight, uniform fruits. Harvest at 9–11" long (or smaller, if you prefer). Stays crisp and delicious up to 14". Strong disease resistance package. Hybrid. Grown from seed in high quality soil.
Gorgeous vines produce small, tiger-striped fruit with excellent crunch and tangy, citrus flavor. Also known as Mexican Sour Gherkins, plants produce best in heat and are well suited to greenhouse production. Can be grown in containers with trellising as vines rarely exceed 8' in length. Fruit has excellent flavor and a crunchy texture that holds up well to pickling. Fresh eating or pickling, 1" fruit, Open- Pollinated.
The shape, size, and color of a lemon, but with sweet cucumber flavor! The tasty fruit is low in cucurbitacin, a naturally occurring cucumber chemical that accounts for a slightly bitter taste. Ideal in salads! Fantastic for kids’ gardens, it is one of our all-time favorite garden crops! Heirloom. Grown from seed in high quality soil.
